Saucony's shoe science

Shoe science - Glossary

Arch Lock : A construction method in which the midfoot of the upper is over-lasted around the midsole. Provides superior fit and stability of the shoe around the foot.

Air Mesh : An extremely breathable, lightweight synthetic mesh offering exceptional comfort on long training sessions.

Ballistic Mesh : A highly durable mesh ideally suited to off-road conditions where upper abrasion can arise from rough terrain.

b/cR : (Blown and Carbon Rubber) Saucony's elite combination of blown rubber and carbon rubber. This lightweight, flexible outsole material provides added cushioning while maintaining durability.

Custom Ride Management : Multiple configuration of a single style which address the individual preferences and needs of different body types and running styles.

Dual Density Midsole : A firmer density of EVA located on the medial side of the midsole which slows the rate of pronation. Also controls the maximum angle of pronation upon impact.

EVA Midsole : (Ethylene Vinyl Acetate) A diverse midsole material which is durable, lightweight, and provides responsive cushioning.
Flex Grooves: Midsole and outsole channels to allow the shoe to bend and flex properly with the natural motion of the foot.

Engineered Asymmetrical Sole : Precision placement of every individual component within the shoe to offer maximum biomechanical efficiency.

GRID Cassette : Saucony's patented cushioning technology. Soft grade Hytrel filaments which provide superior cushioning and stability by centering the heel on impact.

HRC (forefoot) : A responsive cushioning material which provides protection for the forefoot area through the later stages of the gait cycle.

HRC (rearfoot) : Combined with the GRID system to provide additional rearfoot cushioning.

HRC Strobel Board: A layer of HRC running the full length of the shoe, underneath the sockliner. The HRC added to the board gives an instant feel of comfort and cushioning. This is a technology only Saucony uses - lift the sockliner our of your shoes and see if it's there.

Impulse EVA: A upgraded high-end EVA. Offering better compression set and better memory. To the runner this will feel more cushioned and will absorb impact better, but will also be up to 15% more durable, so it returns to it's original shape meaning the cushioning in your shoes last longer.

Ionic Cushioning System : Moulded pillars in rearfoot midsole that work independently to absorb shock and disperse pressure.

Medial Midsole Post : A stabilizing device made from a dense material, usually found on the medial side of a shoe to control the maximum angle of over-pronation. See also Dual Density EVA and Triple Density EVA.

Midfoot Support Bridge : A rigid material in the shank area of the midsole keeps the foot neutral in the midfoot phase of the gait cycle.
Polyurethane: A durable, long-lasting midsole material.

Scotchlite Reflective by 3M : A highly reflective material which increases night-safety and visibility on the road.

Stability Guide : An external heel counter which further enhances rearfoot support.

SRC - Super Rebound Compound: SRC is an upgraded EVA which not only provides 15% more resilience but 10% greater durability too. This makes the shoe more responsive and helps it retains its cushioning characteristics for longer

TRB Shank : (Torsion Rigidity Bar) A lightweight midfoot support piece which helps to maintain proper foot motion in lighter weight products.

Triangular Outsole Lug : Saucony's patented lug design provides exceptional traction and additional cushioning.

Triple Density EVA : A firmer, third density section of EVA added to a Dual Density midsole located at the peak pronation area to control the maximum angle of over-pronation.

XT-Lite : Exclusive Saucony carbon rubber outsole material (Thermo-plastic lugs in Trigon CRML) bonded directly to a fabric base which combines durability, flexibility and light weight properties.

XT-600 : A carbon rubber outsole material which offers outstanding abrasion and traction properties.

XT-900 : Saucony's carbon rubber outsole material which offers exceptional traction properties without sacrificing durability.

XT-1200 : Saucony's exclusive Super-Abrasion carbon rubber outsole material which offers superior durability.

3D GRID Cassette : Saucony's premier GRID technology. Soft grade hytrel filaments wrapped around the midsole form a platform for cushioning and shock absorption.
